Land‐use alters the form of larval density dependence to increase extinction risk in a grassland amphibian

چکیده
An understanding of interactions between anthropogenic stressors and intrinsic population drivers is needed to fully understand wildlife declines. Density dependence a key aspect regulation for many species, especially species that have high reproductive potential, such as amphibians. However, patterns density been characterized only few little work has evaluated how density-dependent may be altered by stressors. We combined the results mesocosm experiment with demographic modeling investigate conversion native prairie agricultural grasslands dominated Tall Fescue grass (Lolium arundinacea) affected larval adult size an imperiled amphibian, Lithobates areolatus (Crawfish Frog). Overall, was overcompensatory, suggesting L. exhibits scramble competition larvae. Both vegetation treatments had low survival at densities, but more individuals survived metamorphosis moderate densities in compared Prairie treatments. implications our experimental using stochastic matrix model project long-term dynamics. Simulated populations breeding Fescue-dominated wetlands variable up 400% higher probability quasi-extinction within 200 years, ponds vegetation. Without varying mathematical models emergent dynamics, would suggested slightly positive effect on amphibian development survival. Vegetation changes surrounding might play important role decline persisting low-intensity areas.

15 صفحه اولExposing Extinction Risk Analysis to Pathogens: Is Disease Just Another Form of Density Dependence?
In the United States and several other countries, the development of population viability analyses (PVA) is a legal requirement of any species survival plan developed for threatened and endangered species. Despite the importance of pathogens in natural populations, little attention has been given to host–pathogen dynamics in PVA. To study the effect of infectious pathogens on extinction risk es...

the frame semantic theory is a nascent approach in the area of translation studies which goes beyond the linguistic barriers and helps us to incorporate cognitive and cultural factors to the study of translation. based on rojos analytical model (2002b), which centered in the frames or knowledge structures activated in the text, the present research explores the various translation problems that...
15 صفحه اولMultistage density dependence in an amphibian
Density dependence is the major process keeping the sizes of natural populations within bounds. In organisms with complex life cycles, the stage at which density dependence occurs and whether it occurs in one or several life stages have important consequences for the dynamics of their populations. I manipulated density of pool frogs (Rana lessonae) during the aquatic larval and the terrestrial ...
